As you may recall, Warcolours Painting Studio did a wonderful job of painting up some Corporate Babes for TMP - next, it was my turn to base the babes!
My intent is to use them for Pulp gaming, in a variety of settings - chief outdoor/urban and indoor. So the usual "green grassy" base treatment won't quite fit in...
So I decided to learn a lesson from my Undead, and give the girls a black/grey "ash" style of base. I figured it would look good on asphalt, and might blend in well enough with any "dark" floor.
The technique was simple:
- glue the figures to round steel disks (or washers or slottabases, if you prefer)
- cover the base with a "sandy" texture (I used Renaissance Ink's Medium Flocking Gel), and let it dry completely
- paint black
- drybrush with dark-to-light shades of gray (I used Delta Ceramcoat Charcoal, Hippo Grey, and Anita's Dove Grey)
- spray with matte clear to seal, protect, and remove any glossiness
When painting the basecoat, I used a paint with good coverage because I wanted a deep, solid black without having to give a second coat. (I used Renaissance Ink's black.) I added a little water to the paint, to get it to flow into the texture. (If you don't, you'll get white dots showing up everywhere.)
Obviously, it's easier to base the figures before you paint them! But I was lucky in that most of the girls were wearing black or gray shoes...
We'll see how this basing works out when I start my Pulp gaming project.
