Hello from the Workbench! My name is Cathy Hamaker, and I run a one-man (or technically, one-woman) painting service called The Painter's Den.
I look forward to this Workbench project, as I really love the creative sculpting and army choices we're seeing for Hundred Kingdoms. How could you not want to paint a whole army of monkeys?
To give an idea of my painting style...
- I'm a big fan of black primer, even when using bright colors. I'd rather go back and drybrush white over the primer coat than have to paint every armpit and underside - seems when I prime white I always miss spots the first time around!
- I'm a slave to inks, particularly Winsor and Newton Nut Brown - it's like a miracle fluid. I usually do base colors, then ink, then go back and carefully drybrush on all the fine details.
- My preferred paints are currently Vallejo, though I still have a lot of Armory and Polly S Fantasy colors in my lineup.
- I also tend to use a lot of tube acrylics from Liquitex, as their thick texture lends itself to blending and shading right on the figure.
I can't wait to get my Simians and get started!
