Reminds me of Beany's Cecil.

That's what I thought before reading one word.

A while ago, Dances With Words Fezian did me the great favor of sending me some of his creations, and gave me permission to share them all with you.

Here's a 'rough scan' of the figures I'm doing for you...

I don't know if you can see it... but one is the 'shorttimer' fez with feet. I will put 'socks' on the feet... with a 'hole' for the big toe on one....

Second item is a 'sock puppet'... which will also have a fez on it...and look sorta 'ragged'/fuzzy... like Cecil the seasick sea serpent from Beany and Cecil from waaaaay back...
Rough scan

He later explained more about the whole 'short timer' concept:

The short-timer concept is something familiar to a lot of army types... as he was a 'character' in military comics and 'free-lance/Kilroy was here' type soldier comedic art. Basically he was a 'steel pot' (helmet)... perched on a pair of black combat boots and he was always 'popping up' somewhere... In formations for inspections... KP duty... sneaking up behind hapless CO's to 'boot' them... etc...

It also represented someone who had less than 90 days 'active duty' left on their tour... (AKA two-digit midget)... and was a mascot for those not planning or 're-upping' for whatever reason. In fact, he was usually 'guest of honor' at the 'separation party' we held for a comrade who was 'shipping out' to the separation station/or going home the next day...

I asked Dances With Words Fezian how he made his creations:

The short-timer was made using mostly blue-yellow two-part epoxy (which when mixed makes 'greenstuff'), over a 'thimble-shaped' piece of balsa. The legs were wire armatures covered with green, as were the feet and base. The rest of the detail (such as it is) was 'sculpted' on in layers... I used an old toothbrush to give the fez surface 'texture' like it was made of 'felt/velour'? Or I tried to...

Cecil was green epoxy, in multiple layers over some styrofoam packing material... (like popcorn, only not the half-shell type)... and the rest of the detail 'sculpted' in layers...

I worked on them... off and on... as they were done in 'layers'... as humble as the sculpts are... I can assure you... they are each 'one of a kind' and took a lot of time and effort on my part to do.

And here they are, as painted by Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian...

The Sock Puppet

I went with an off-white color for the sock, since... well, sock puppets aren't entirely clean...

I like these little guys - and I like the fact that Dances With Words Fezian shows us how to have fun with our hobby.
