It's a long story, but I'll try to make it short. Here at the website, we have an ongoing project to paint two demo armies for Hundred Kingdoms - both to showcase a new game, and to show how the figures can be painted. Painting Contest

So then we had a pre-contest contest to come up with a common painting scheme for the five Legions.

The winning paint scheme, as modeled by a Simian Centurion

Reader jugglingfool's winning proposal called for:

Clothes:
Purple, I like Purple
Head Plumes:
Yellow (for Praetorians and the Centurian)
Armor:
Silver with Bronze accents
Fur:
Black

Which set things up for the Simian Legions Contest proper:

  • Five of the world's best painters
  • Five sets of identical figures (6 models, two poses)
  • Painted to identical painting schemes

So then we had a photo contest, with the world's best painters submitting their best work, and the readers of this website voting for the best...until finally, the five Best of the Best were Finalists and the painting began!
