TMP's Virtualscratchbuilder created the master of this lovely 1/144 scale Dewoitine D.510 which Reviresco is now producing. I'd like to thank him up front for asking if I would like to do the article and for providing me with the kit.
Supplies:
Other than standard model assembly and painting tools and supplies, I used the following:
- Leftover, blank decals sheet
- Labeling tape (yes, the blank tape used in label-making devices)
The basic kit is cast in metal, and consists of the parts depicted:
Virtualscratchbuilder has already completed a model in Chinese livery, and the Reviresco site has one in Spanish Civil War livery. I decided to finish this specimen in French livery, and to convert it back to an earlier model Dewoitine D.500.
I chose to depict the model as an aircraft of the Cigognes (Storks), 4eme Escadrille, GC. II/5, 1936 (for more information). Selecting the D.500 required removal of the underwing guns, as well as modifying the propeller spinner to remove the gun barrel. Choosing the Cigognes pushed me to use silver paint, and to find a way to represent the Cigognes insignia displayed on the side of the aircraft.
