Some of you may have wondered why the figures that I've been showing for my AK47 armies are based on individual bases, rather than on the usual 30mm x 30mm bases used by that ruleset.

Well, I hate to hate any army tied to a single set of rules, so my theory has been to use 30mm x 30mm magnetic bases under the steel bases when playing AK47.

Mock up

So I took some spare steel bases (from Wargames Accessories), and a plastic base that came with my AK47 boxed army from Peter Pig, and figured out how the figures would have to fit on the magnetic base.

Sketch

Then I made a sketch, putting in some distances that I had calculated, and specifying holes where I would insert magnets. I sent the plan to Litko, and had them make some clear acrylic bases to match.
