Dread Pirate Garness Fezian continues:

The base was not exactly exciting to me, and I wanted to do something that would make it look more dynamic. What I did was, I cut the top part of the base off, and rebuilt the removed portion with green putty. I then drilled a deep hole in the base, and drilled a hole in the bottom of the hovercraft (I should note that I actually did the drilling long before I painted the figure). Using a GW flight stand, I placed a pin in both ends, and bent the top pin till I got the angle I wanted the hovercraft to rest at.

I then primed the base, painted it with Americana Burnt Umber, and drybrushed it. I added Ceramcoat Pineapple to the base color till it was close to khaki. I am not normally a fan of drybrushing, but since it usually leaves a gritty look, it seemed rather appropriate for a dust cloud.

The dust cloud

Well, that about wraps it up. I hope you like what I have done with this model, and I had a good time working on it.

I found it rather challenging to do, but I think the color choice and little extra details make it a rather nice model with some personality. It is my opinion that I have accomplished what I set out to do. To me, the deep brown base with the contrasting blue helps it look fast (not heavy), rather appropriate for an air force and...well, I have been in the service and known quite a few pilots over the years, and I think they would approve of the unit markings, warning signs, and the personal touch.

I must comment that I would have loved to do a small conversion on the piece. The whole time I was painting this up, I kept thinking to myself - a hula dancer on the dash would be the coup de grace. Oh well, maybe next time...

Thanks again to everyone. I am truly honored to have gotten this far, and here's to the next round! Best all.
