As this figure is a barbarian of some stature, I chose to make his pants a little more "glamorous" than the rank-and-file would have had. I began with a basecoat of Americana Burgundy, and applied several layers to get even coverage. My normal mix for paint is to mix it about 60% paint to 40% water. The paint does become rather thin, but it flows very well and the coverage is very smooth.
Instead of moving on to the next highlight color of the pants, I gave the paint about 24 hours to cure. This is because the paint is very thin, and can come off with the application of more paint. So while the paint dried, I began painting the face, hair, boots, hands and weapon shaft GW Scorched Brown. Again, the paint was thinned and several coats were applied.
Next day, I began with Americana Santa Red for the highlights for the pants. When this dried, I applied GW Purple Wash, thinned 25% ink to 75% water, and began applying shade on the shade regions such as under the knees, at the coat/tunic line, and at the ankle ties as well as the folds.
