It didn't take long to decide to paint the cities up following the paint guide in the book. It looked reasonable for the game pieces - and until I know the game better, I wasn't comfortable moving outside the suggested paint scheme for the armies.

As suggested in the booklet, I used an ivory base coat for both pieces, followed by brown washes to bring out some of the details. I used a warm red-brown on one city and a darker grey-brown on the other, to make them look similar but identifiably different in color. Where necessary, I filled in the windows a little more to make them stand out.

I painted one with a green stripe and one with red as per the book, and painted the front door of each castle to match. Then I put down a little flocking inside, after painting a brown base on the inside courtyard area, to fancy it up some.

A few coats of sealant, and four hours later they were ready to play - which was good, because Jon was knocking at the door...
