Ready for painting

The masts (which were later replaced with taller versions) and the guns, which are tapered sections of plastic rod superglued into small pilot holes.

Additional modelling work included building a compass house (which is fitted below the main hull and does not show up in these photos) and some minor detailing - for example, a name plate to the side of the wheelhouse, and the portholes drilled out with a small handheld drill.

The construction is now complete and took about three to four hours over a two-day period, working in the shed with simple tools and while listening to the radio.

The next stage is painting...
