I was going to do a simple base for this miniature, but at the last minute got an idea of a better way to base it: in a coliseum-like setting. Unfortunately, it's now Sunday, and so I can't go get the materials I want. I thus finished up the very nice model with a plebian dark brown base until I could get what I really wanted. (This will be a Christmas present, so I have plenty of time to get it right!)
Reaper also has a brush-on sealer for this set. Even though the paints dry nice and matte, I always put something on my figures so they don't lose paint when handled. The sealer went on with no bubbles or drips, and covered smoothly with no thinning required.
I had two goals when I started this figure:
- The first was to do as good a job as I could on the donation by Alpha Miniatures. I am very conscious that sponsoring a competition costs money, and so wanted to do the best I could.
- The second was to evaluate the Reaper Master Paints. I loved using the paints. They flow nicely, have good opacity, and match well in their color triads. They do not require you to buy a paint shaker to get them mixed (don't laugh, I do have one for my Vallejo Model Colors), and all of the bottles already have an agitator in them. (These are apparently small metallic skulls, that you can pull out when the bottle is empty and use for various and sundry things.)
You folks will have to evaluate how good (or bad) a job I did on the Alpha miniature I worked on. All I can say is that it was a lot of fun, and the miniature is nicely designed.
I bought Two Hour Wargames' gladiator rules when I was at Milleniumcon 8, and now may actually look into getting 54's instead of the 28's I had planned on for the game. Thanks, Alpha!
