I started out painting this guy with a light gray basecoat. Since I didn't really have a plan yet, I wanted to keep my options open.

With no better idea yet, I grabbed the first color that caught my interest - a darkish orange. I thinned the color down a good deal, and gave the figure about 3 coats to get it nice and even. Orange seemed to be the way forward, so I grabbed a brighter orange and gave the beastie a liberal drybrushing with it. He wasn't quite bright enough for me yet, so I mixed some yellow into the orange and gave him some highlights (I painted onto these more yellow highlights...I didn't drybrush them).

Outlining the musculature

After the ink dried (I sped this up by putting him under a lamp), I went back over the muscles with a color similar (but slightly brighter than) the basecoat. I kept this color thin to keep from covering up all my previous work.

Going back over the muscles

Next, I mixed some bright orange into my paint and added some highlights to the muscles. At this point, I felt he was starting to show some potential, and an idea was forming in my mind....
