Warcolours Painting Studio Fezian of Warcolours Miniature Painting Studio writes:

It was time to tackle the drivers now: I started by basecoating the face and hands with GW Dark Flesh, highlighting with GW Dwarf Flesh. Even on a figure as small as a 15mm miniature, the face is the focal point, so it is worth spending a little time on it. By leaving dark shadows in the eye sockets, along the nose, and around the mouth, the miniature takes life.

The uniform was basecoated in Olive Grey, which was then highlighted adding a little VMC 886 Green Grey to the mix. The belt was painted in Saddle Brown and the steering wheel in German Camo Black Brown. To add a little detail, I picked the cap badge in gold: then I got back to the Italian Army website and found that the collar badge for the drivers during WWII was black with sky-blue piping.

The piping would be invisible at this scale, so I settled for a black badge with a silver dot in it (for the little star which is typical of all the forces of the Italian Army, even today).

Finally, to give these little guys some importance, I decided to promote both of them sergeants, so I added their rank insignia to the sleeves with VMC 949 Light Yellow.

At this point, all that was left was to glue them in place and to seal everything with a light coat of Gunze Sangyo Topcoat Flat, to allow them to withstand the hardships of the gaming table.
