The nine large drawers in the cabinet are only slightly more complicated. The problem is the bump in the middle of the drawer...
You may be thinking - oh, that bump is no problem, I'll just smooth the magnetic sheet right over it. That's true enough, but the purpose of having the magnetic sheet is for the models to stick to it.
In this case, just sticking magnetic sheet over the bump creates an even larger "pucker" right in the middle of the drawer, and anything placed over it won't get a good magnetic contact, and is much more likely to slip around.
Anticipating this problem, I didn't actually order any 4" x 5" magnetic sheets for the large drawers as I had originally planned - I only ordered the 1¾" x 5" size for all the drawers. This allows me to put a strip of magnetic sheet down each side, leaving the center area (and the bump) clear.
Personally, I like the "two strip" approach because I can clearly see where the magnetic sheet is and isn't. However, it's also possible to use a sharp knife to trim a circle out of the middle of the two lined-up sheets once they're stuck in place...
...or - the simpler solution - to cut diagonals out of the middle of each sheet before sticking them down.
None of this is exactly difficult, and I quickly have nine large storage drawers lined with magnetic sheet.
