Today, I will add the last finishing touches to those mighty Simian Legonaires.

I applied a coat of Citadel Clear Varnish to the miniatures to protect them for gameplay.

...then get a layer of watered down PVA glue.

Before the glue dries, dip the base into a fine gravel.

Allow a few minutes for the glue to dry, and then gently knock off any excess.

After a few hours, you can start painting the dried gravel. I used a mix of Bestial Brown and Black as the base colour, highlighted with Bestial Brown, Snakebite Leather and Bleached Bone.

After the base is painted, I applied some static flock to the bases.
