The G Dog Fezian writes:

OK, it's time to attach the tree to the base. First step is to dry-fit the components. We want to see if the tree stands on the base, without aid, in a roughly perpendicular direction. Does it stand up without needing additional support? Good! If not, bend the various wires until it does stand upright. This is important, as the tree must support its weight while the Flex Paste dries.

Dry-fitting the tree

Also, make sure the wires do not extend past the edges of the base. If a wire is too long, trim it with the wire cutter until it fits. Repeat the dry-fit steps to ensure that the balance of the tree has not changed.

Next, place the scored side of the base up (if your styrene was scored) and cover the styrene with a medium-thick layer of Woodland Scenics Flex Paste. The layer should be thick enough to cover the wires extending out from the base.

Attaching the tree

Work the wires of the trunk base into the Flex Paste, attempting to cover all the wire with paste. The easiest way to do this is to press the wires into the paste and then slowly spin it back and forth, covering the wires as you turn the trunk of the tree. If any of the wire remains visible, use a Popsicle stick to trowel more Flex Paste on top of the wire.

Once covered, use a Popsicle stick to smooth the paste on top of the wires and the base. You are trying to avoid the look of broken ground.

Allow the paste to dry for at least a day.
