Dread Pirate Garness continues:
I highlighted using GW Bad Moon Yellow. This is really a great color. I know many of you hate a yellow that does not cover well and is way too bright (as this color is). But here is where it shines: Because it is bright and has poor coverage, it makes an excellent highlight color.
I thinned the yellow a bit, and then built up the color little by little till I had a smooth transition from green to an almost yellow-green. What I love about this is the more yellow I add, the more it shows and I have a lot of control over the intensity of the highlights. All you have to do is to thin the paint, paint it on the highlight area desired, let dry and repeat - gradually painting less and less till you are satisfied.
(This does not have to be limited to green, either. This technique works very well for red as well, but remember: the paint must be very thin. I cannot express how important thinning the paint is. The base color must show through in order for the highlight to be effective...and not a yellow stripe.)
