Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian writes:

As I mentioned earlier, I'm planning to do some car-combat-type gaming, and I want to have two racing teams of three cars each. So here I am working on 'yellow' team car #3.

Leadfoot

Leadfoot is a toy car from Maisto. It's been released in green, blue, red and other colors, sometimes with colorful decals – I picked this one up in a dollar store.

Leadfoot

For a combat-car conversion, it has some useful qualities. First, it's body, so the flat roof and sides would be easy to mount weapons on. Second, those 'torpedo bulges' on the front could easily be considered armor, rams, missile warheads, or even weapon mounts. The rear end also has bulges that could be the start of conversion work.

Leadfoot

There are three bolts to drill out, and the car breaks down into chassis, body, windows, chrome engine, and wheels – ready to paint!

Leadfoot

And this is the finished car! The body was spraypainted yellow (got a little 'lemon peel' effect frown), with some panels in black and red.

Leadfoot

The main armament is the new turret, mounted slightly turned to show that it's a turret and not a fixed gun mount.

Leadfoot

The chrome engine part was left untouched. The bumpers were painted gunmetal to suggest armor.

Leadfoot

I wanted some team markings, but I wanted them to look like they were hand-painted by the crew. So I used a silver marker to add a vehicle ID number.

Leadfoot

On the other side, I wrote the team name: IMAI. (The original car on this team came with 'Imai' markings, so why not make this Team Imai? Mr. Imai, by the way, is a famous toy car designer.)

Leadfoot

The rear bumper is again painted gunmetal to suggest armor or reinforcement.

Leadfoot

Defensive armament on the back are an oil sprayer/flamer and a grenade lobber. All the accessories used on this project are available from Stan Johansen Miniatures.

The vehicle is mounted on a wooden base flocked with black sand (for a 'road' effect), with FlexSteel underneath for storage purposes. Wooden base and FlexSteel from LITKO.
