Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian was kind enough to allow me to write up a second Workbench article, this time with two excellent Hasslefree miniatures - Officer Nick and his intrepid partner PC Sam Ford. I have to confess right here that Kev White is one of my favorite sculptors, so if this write-up sounds a bit biased, you'll know why.

First off, the figures are nice right out of the bag. The casting and detail is clean and crisp, with no flash or obvious mold lines. Parts come on an additional sprue, and fit with no need for putty. The only change I made was to swap out the standard slottabases for larger display ones. (I did have to trim down Sam's foot bar to get a fit.)

Figures

After gluing their arms, I primed them with Vallejo brush-on white primer, and chopped up the parts bars for extra base detail. (Bricks, I figure.)

Primed
I've mentioned before I'm just a "game standard" painter, more interested in getting decent brushwork on the figs for an upcoming game night, so these figures and bases are fast, simple and straightforward.

The main colors were blue for the trousers, white for the shirts, black for the tac-vests, and green-hued gray for the pouches/belt. The white shirts were first painted gray, then highlighted white.

This is actually my standard painting procedure for individual figures; to block paint the main colors, then highlight with lighter shades. This was done with these four elements.

Once they were dry, I went on to the flesh tones, the shotguns, and hair. Glasses/eyes, Nick's watch and other accessories were done last of all. The final step was to put on some PVA glue, and sprinkle sand to vary the base texture even more.
