Hi there, everybody. Welcome to my second Last Painter Standing write-up - hope you all find something interesting in here.
First up, of course, was the cleaning stage of the mini. I went through the usual - scraping, filing, drilling, etc.
I was debating with myself down to the last minute whether or not I should resculpt the face into the ninja's from Metal Gear Solid, but in the end left it alone. The only conversion I did was to the sniper rifle that came with the mini. I decided early on that it was too big, and the angle that it sits on his back throws off the dynamics of the mini terribly. So I decided to cut it down to look like a suppressed carbine instead, much more stealthy to my mind too. So I cut through the barrel with my knife by twisting the gun around under the blade...
...then filed the end smooth, bevelled the edges, then drilled out the centre with my pin vice.
Now that that was done, I realised I'd probably have to pin on the gun to his back. (I could just glued it straight on now since there was plenty of surface area, but I figured I'd paint the mini and gun separately and join them later.)
So first up, I drilled a hole in the roughly middle of the gun.
Then I put some blue tac on the back of the mini. I wet the top of the blue tac, pressed the gun into place, then carefully pulling it away I was left with the impression of the side of the gun and the hole left in the blue tac.
I then pushed into the mini through the blue tac where the hole should go, then pulled away the blue tac and drilled into his back.
After a prime of black paint, prep work was done.
