Even though the alignment pins assured a nice fit, I decided to reinforce the joint with a metal pin (paper clip). I removed the alignment pins with a hobby knife...
...and used a small drill to make and lengthen the holes for the pins.
I inserted the pins, did a test fit, and then glued and clipped the pins.
