Painting Time

The first thing that I attacked was the base. (If the plaster-water turned out garbage, I'd have to start all over again with something else!)

So starting with a black prime, I painted all of the base work with Palmer Deep Teal, a wonderful new colour I've been experimenting with. It builds up from black very well. After covering all of the water with a couple coats, I selectively built it up more on the peaks, and then used White to paint the caps. The result at this stage was too dark, so I mixed White into the Teal and painted the tops of the waves again. I then lightened it a bit more, and then blended in the shadows again with the Teal. After all this, I painted the caps again with a speckling of White.

The airflow base up till now had been painted in the same colours, but I decided it needed to look a bit different than the water - so I painted it Baltic Blue, then did a wash of Enchanted Blue.

Base

I highlighted up with Ice Blue and White. I also used a bit of Teal again on the broad area to match the water. At the end of all this fevered night of painting, I was pretty happy with the results.
