Dread Pirate Garness writes:

The eyes of the severed head were first filled in with greenstuff, and then painted over with Apple Barrel Black. When this dried - as the head was that of a Nubian - I painted the whites with Americana Raw Siena and Toffee mixed together.

The severed head gets some attention

The hair on the back of his head - I forgot to mention, I added some length to this with greenstuff when I was doing the arm conversion. I basecoated it Scorched Brown, washed it with GW Brown Ink, and then painted in the individual strands with Bestial Brown highlighted with a bit of Snakebite Leather, and then finished with touches of Americana Toffee.

Hair on the severed head is painted

The eyes of the severed head were lined with thinned Americana Santa Red. Then the eyes were painted in as little circles of black, gradually increased in size until they were the correct size. For the record, the first time I did the eyes, I got it wrong and had to go back on one eye, paint in a tiny amount on the interior of the white by the nose, and then go back and correct the black in the center so the eye looked correct. We don't want any crossed-eyed gladiators 'round these parts, no sirree!!

The eyes are completed

The plumes were painted with the same Americana Santa Red along the lines of the sculpt. I must comment that that on a figure this scale, I would have expected the plumes to be more clearly defined than they were. But as this is a larger figure, it is not a big deal to paint them in yourself. It just takes a little patience.

Finishing the plumes

To separate the plumes, I put in some black plumage to break it up a bit and add some character to the figure. The black was highlighted with Americana French Blue Grey, which was thinned down to about a 40/60 paint-to-water ratio, and the color was gradually built up.
