Rob Jedi continues:

Now onto the cops...

I primed these black, and got into them. I had decided to basically paint them in reverse to the robot's scheme, but the same colours. I started with the shields. I based them with Shadow Grey (I think that's its name), then highlighted with Elf Grey and white. I needed Acrylic Extender to blend the shields properly - the rounded shape was tricky. After that was done, I painted the corners black, then tried to work out how to write "POLICE" on there.

Shields painted, ready for markings

First, I took a piece of paper and measured the size of the shield against it. Then I wrote "POLICE" a couple times to get the letters to fit in the area. I then put a couple pieces of masking tape on the shield and stuck the paper on top. I then painted on the letters, removed the tape, and cleaned up the edges (paint tends to sneak under the tape). After this, I painted the corners and back of the shields Boltgun Metal, then did a wash of the Umber and black to tone it down. I also added some marks and scratches to the shields.

Marking the shields

After the shields were done, the troopers were nice and quick. I based them in Moody Blue and Charcoal.

Trooper in base colours

I highlighted the Charcoal areas with Codex Grey and Ash Grey on the edges, then did a wash of Charcoal to blend it all together. For the blue areas, I highlighted with Enchanted Blue, then blended it back with thinned Moody. I then did final highlights with Sky Blue.

Highlighted trooper, with shield added

After that, it was detailing. I painted the eyes with Scaly Green - same as the cockpit - and the targeter-looking eye with a dot of red. These were both dotted with white. I painted the power-thingy on the back of the right arms with red, highlighted with white ink mixed into a red-orange. OK - all done.

The finished troopers

I just want to point out that the troops took two nights, while the robot took three weeks - sheesh.
