Before assembling the mini, I needed to set up the hex base. I have done something different in each round of the LPS2 contest, so this time I chose a rocky outcropping for a base. The main material is cork board, which is cheap (a 1-foot tile for $5 USD), easy to work, and has a rock-like texture.
I started by gluing the right foot into the hex base, then placing a fragment of cork over the open area and tracing the outline with a pen. Next, using a very sharp hobby knife, I carved free the traced portion. My cork fragment now plugs into the hexbase for easy gluing.
The cork is naturally fairly smooth, and I wanted a more rough look. Using a dull hobby knife, I picked out a few portions of the cork. I also used putty and gravel to fill out the "ground" around the right foot. Next, I added another thin piece of cork and glued the left foot into place.
