Next, I painted the undersides of the models and the canopies. I used a #3 brush to paint the bottoms of the models, and a #2 on the canopies. (I'll paint the canopy frames later.) I applied two coats of paint on the bottom of each model.

Bellies and Canopies Painted

Once the bottom colors were dry, I painted the lighter of the two upper camouflage colors. Again, I used two thin coats of paint instead of one thick coat. Once the first color had dried, I used a pencil to outline the camouflage pattern (British paint scheme only).

First Camouflage Color Applied

At this point I've painted the canopy frames (using a #1 brush) and applied the second, darker color of the upper camouflage (#2 and #3 brushes). I've also drawn, in pencil, reference lines for identification markings.

Reference Lines

The models are pretty well complete at this point. I've painted the identification markings, exhaust stacks, guns, tail wheels, and highlighted some of the panel lines and control surface joints.
