The bases of all three models are sand, washed with black ink. This is drybrushed Bestial Brown, then Vomit Brown, then Bleached Bone. The rims of the bases are re-touched with Chaos Black, before some clumps of static grass are glued on.
I hope you enjoy looking at pirates, because I'm sure there will be another article involving me painting them before long...
(Let me know what to try for my next experiment - I've run out of ideas!)
