This army needed two stands of skirmishers - psiloi in DBA-speak - which normally come two figures per stand. It was simple enough to put together two overbases, each slightly different to emphasize the irregular nature of skirmishers.

One of the overbases

(See here for a description of how I made my overbases.)

The next question was: which figures to use for skirmishers? Such light troops are normally armed with ranged weapons - javelins, slings, bows... which gave me plenty of possibilities from among the volunteer-supplied troops. Skirmishers were also often young men or boys, so I went looking for smaller, less "rich" looking warriors...

Of course, since I'm using these magnetic overbases, any such assignments are easily changed!

The Designated Skirmishers

Skirmisher #1

I rather like the scruffy look of this slinger from adster.

Skirmisher #2

This slinger has gone in for the "limed" hair look. Very sharp job from major blunder.

Skirmisher #3

I love the face on this slinger, charging forward - from bagration. (As with most of these skirmishers, this figure came pre-based, so I slapped some Flex Magnet material to the bottom of his base.)

Skirmisher #4

Another slinger with great facial expression. Alas, there's no signature on this figure - would the artist kindly identify himself?
