A funny thing happened on the way to the Workbench...
Adam finished Bugharoth back in 2006, but didn't feel comfortable with the quality of the photos he had taken. He asked that I take additional photos when the model arrived at TMP.
Unfortunately, when Bugharoth arrived, he was in pieces. Both hands, the tail, and multiple horns had been knocked off during shipping.
At that point, I put the model on my personal workbench. It was clear to me that the joints needed not only to be glued, but to be pinned (that is, holes drilled and a wire glued to reinforce the connection between the parts). However, I was entirely unsure of my skills when it came to pinning an already-painted model - and one that Adam considered his best work to date!
So I practiced. (And stalled...).
Finally, in the winter of 2009, I took courage and began work on the repair. I started with the tail, as the break had been rough here and I needed to pin, patch, and repaint. Fortunately, most of the area immediately around the tail is quite dark.
I worked on the wrists next. The only trick with these was to make sure I had everything lined up before gluing the pinned hands in place - check and double-check, because once the glue sets, that's it!
I reattached the broken horns last, and suffered my only defeat when one of the horns - that had fit fine when I tested it! - now refused to slide fully into place when superglued. That left a ring around the base of the horn - but I painted it black, and maybe nobody will notice...
And in the spring of 2010, with the return of warmer weather, I was able to spray a sealer coat on the repaired Bugharoth, and here he is!
