Re-Equipping Scotty

Back to Workbench

Hey You Supporting Member of TMP writes:

I think if you mix Scotty with some 4 inch figures and other various sizes, he wouldn't appear so large. I have figures from around 3.75 inches to over 4 inches and putting them together as a team takes away from the height differences (visually) of each figure. At least that's what I think.

Years ago, I picked up a Scotty action figure. This is not an Original Series figure, but a Star Trek: Next Generation Scotty. I've had him on my desk for years, mostly because if 'old' Scotty can be an 'action' figure, then I figure there's hope for me! grin

I vaguely recall this figure coming with some engineering equipment, but that was lost long ago. So I recently decided to reequip Scott and get him ready for new adventures!

Scotty

Above, you can see Scotty on his detachable insignia-base, freshly washed up from years of being on display. I've also grabbed a variety of sci-fi weapons and a backpack from the Final Faction action figure line (not the same scale, but the equipment is compatible).

Scotty

Scotty's 'gripping hand' will accept all of these guns, but not securely. I'd like something full-sized, similar to the 'rifle phaser' from the original series.

Scotty

I feel that Scotty needs a weapon, but I know that Star Trek emphasizes his peaceful role.

Scotty

Perhaps it's better if Scotty keeps his weapon of war in his backpack, then.

Scotty

I prime both items and paint them up.

Scotty

The backpack has a large peg for insertion into the back of an action figure. Therefore, I drill a hole into Scotty's back.

Scotty

The backpack is then glued into place.

Scotty

And here is the finished Scotty, now based on a 3mm wooden LITKO base that has been primed and flocked.

Scotty

The gun rests loosely inside the backpack.

Scotty

I considered gluing the gun in place so it won't get lost, but it was easier not to.

Scotty

The gun can be posed in the figure's hand, but it easily falls out. If I wanted it there permanently, I'd need to glue it and possibly pin it in place.

Scotty

While the equipment is compatible, the Final Faction figures are smaller than Scotty. The Final Faction figure is about 3⅝" tall, while Scotty is 4½" tall.

Not sure what I'm going to do with Scotty now, but this was a quick and fun project. grin
