Two more Orc units have escaped from my workbench table this week…

Goblin Wolf Riders

Goblin Wolf Riders

Goblins riding wolves (or wargs) have become a mainstay of fantasy armies. These are from the original Mighty Armies Orc boxed set, and in this game system, Goblin Wolf Riders are fast, weak, and poor shots with their bows – and a tactical challenge to use correctly! (As Editor Julia is learning…)

Goblin Wolf Riders

Many years ago, I had a gaming buddy whose fantasy campaign involved hordes of Orcs and Goblins. For some reason, he was absolutely convinced that Goblins had to be yellow-skinned (this was before Warhammer declared Goblins to be 'Greenskins'), and I've preferred my Goblins to be yellow ever since.

Goblin Wolf Riders

I've gone over to the 'new' basing for Mighty Armies, so only three models per base. I find them easier to base this way, and I get more bang for my buck since the same number of figures make more bases now.

Goblin Wolf Riders

These models were painted for TMP by our friends at Fernando Enterprises, then were based by myself and will be part of my slowly-rebuilding Orc army.

Varrig’s Strong Arm - Heavy Catapult

Strong Arm

This model from the Demonworld line fits on the larger (2" square) Mighty Armies base, and will make a nice reinforcement for Editor Julia's army when she returns to the Philippines. (There is an Orc trebuchet in the Mighty Armies product range, but I did not think it would ship well.)

Strong Arm

The catapult comes in several pieces: the deck, two arches, the top bow, the catapult arm, and six wheels. (The 'top bow' looks nice, but I think is purely decorative…)

There are also four crew figures. One is supposed to be carrying a hammer, but I accidentally broke the hammerhead off, so I replaced the head with a small glass bead.

Strong Arm

This model set was also painted for TMP by Fernando Enterprises, then assembled and based by myself. The only assembly problem I had was that I could not get the 'top bow' to go on straight, but since it was Orcs, I figured crooked was just fine.
