There's something about the former Grenadier 15mm fantasy ranges that I love. It's nice to know that, unlike some other older 15mm fantasy ranges, this range remains available today (from Mirliton). These old 15mms are a little small compared to more recent models, but that's OK. Maybe these are Hill Dwarves. grin

I'm painting up some of these classic fantasy figures as my Volcano Dwarf army. Last time, I showed you the Great Cannon. This time, it's back to infantry.

These were painted by our Sri Lanka friends, Fernando Enterprises. My instructions were:

Instructions for all Volcano Dwarves: Caucasian/tanned flesh tone. Beards: black, brown, gray, blonde (varied). Army colors are red and yellow (volcano); these are Chaos Dwarves.

Volcano Dwarf Swords 16 figures: Armor, chainmail, helmets, swords: steel. Makes swords look sharp. Belts, boots: brown. Shields: yellow, with silver studs.

When the figures arrived, I attached them to Mighty Armies 1" x 2" plastic bases (available from Rebel Minis), contoured with spackle, painted the base top brown, flocked the base, sealed everything with a dull clearcoat, and added FlexSteel on the bottom (available from LITKO).

I only have six bases of these, as I'm challenging myself to build an army list based on what I happen to have in my lead pile, and I've decided these Dwarves have lots of artillery and little infantry.

I had two extra figures, so I made a stand that can be used as regular infantry or a command stand. I only had one of the Dwarves without a shield, so I used him here – he's been promoted to an officer!

When dealing with a painting service, keep in mind that they'll follow your instructions, but they paint in their particular style. So when my instruction was for 'yellow' shields, you might expect I'd get solid yellow shields. But it's their style to do the yellow shields as they turned out, with shadowing.
