What I like to do is to break a big project into lots of little projects. That way, it doesn't feel like a burden, and you get a 'feel good' whenever you finish part of the larger project.
Last time, I had a super-micro project – one stand of barbarian macemen. And this time, just two stands of barbarian command.
These figures were painted for TMP by Blue Table, then based by myself on 1" x 2" Mighty Armies plastic bases.
Each command stand gets one of the barbarian leaders, one of the standardbearers, and a third figure is optional.
I used a barbarian spear figure, as I only had two of those in the whole collection that I picked up! (The other spear guy you'll see soon…)
Maybe I should have put the standardbearer further to the side, so he wouldn't obscure the king.
Some nice painting.
For the other command stand, I used a barbarian archer figure that was left over from doing the archer stands.
Looks like I need to carefully straighten that pole!
The archer is holding his sword aloft – he's a sword-and-bow barbarian.
I asked the painting service to provide banners, and the material they chose looks particularly nice.
Above is what the banners originally looked like.
To add variety, I took some gold paint and added more horns to one of the helmets on the banner.
Two more stands done – easy! The barbarians project marches along!
