I like Goblins. It's probably because I used to game with a fellow who was really a Goblin enthusiast. He had hordes of Goblins in his collection – I've never had a plan to amass a Goblin horde, but I would pick up a Goblin or two over the years, from a sales bin or a flea market, and chuck them into a box.
Well, the box was getting full! Also, I realized that these Goblins would fit in well with some fantasy gaming I was planning. So I took them out of their packaging (when I got them out of the blister packs, there weren't as many as I had thought) and shipped them off to our friends in Ukraine, Old Guard Painters.
I divided up the Goblins by type, and my instructions to the painters were simple:
Paint skin color bright yellow. Red eyes. Dull steel weapons. Leather clothes/hats.
And now they're back, and I'm basing them up. The first group for your perusal are Goblins armed with swords:
OK, only one little problem…
I asked for yellow-skinned Goblins, and I got green-skinned Goblins. I asked for leather hats, and got steel caps. Oh well.
In hindsight, I should have written down which figures were what, as I have little idea now as to which manufacturer made which figures.
I do know, however, that they were labeled as Goblins – no Orcs here!
Great face!
The image above helps show the sword better. It's far too long for him, and it's unclear if it is resting on his helmet horns or tied to them!
I don't know who makes this figure, either. Sort of a pirate look to him.
If you recognize any of these figures, please let us know.
For slotta-type figures, I based them on round bases because many were too large for the standard square bases, then glued a steel disk on the bottom so they won't slide around in magnet-lined storage boxes. For non-slotta figures, I based them on steel disks.
This Goblin is rocking it all – chainmail, scalemail, shoulderplates!
And this last photo (above) helps to show he has quite a boss on that shield, too.
And speaking of shields, here are two with spiked shields!
I also recognize this figure as the crouching Goblin from the Iron Wind catalog.
I wouldn't mind having a few dozen more of these fellows.
And two more from the same source:
These are not crouching, they are advancing!
The nice thing about Goblins is that you expect them to come in different sizes, that's what Goblins are.
This is the runt in this batch. He might look out of place in a formed unit on a battlefield, but in skirmish-level gaming he'll be just fine.
More to come! And let me know if you can ID any of the mystery figures here. Thanks!
