I was looking for an easy project from my lead pile, spotted these skeletons from Steve Jackson Games, and painted them up.
The figures came packed in a VHS video-cassete-type plastic box, and most of figures have four parts: torso, skull, and two arms. There are basic instructions in the box, and more detailed instructions online. Personally, I found it easier to glue skulls to bodies first, then arms to bodies, but you have to keep your final pose in mind so your skull is looking at your weapon target. (Except the machineguns, which come as one piece with gun and both arms; I painted those first, and glued them on last.)
Did I mention machineguns? Yes, this set gives you the option to equip your skellies with machineguns, pistols, and daggers! I opted for all the guns I could, as how often do you get the change to have gun-toting skeletons!
If you're good with superglue, these models are not difficult to assemble. In my case, let's just say I had superglue on my fingers for a day or so…
The metal parts are thin and easily bent, so you can express some creativity in posing the models.
My usual skeleton technique is to paint white and wash with black ink, but I tried something new here, and went with shades of tan, Coat d'Arms Super Wash: Dark Brown, some black ink wash in the major cavities, and some final white highlights. Guns were painted black, drybrushed gunmetal, with dark brown stocks.
The torsos were glued to steel disks before assembly, and the base was contoured with spackle. When the figures were completed, the bases were flocked with black sand.
Are these figures still available from the manufacturer? While they are listed in the online catalog, no price is listed, so I suspect they are no longer in production.
