Noticing that my opponent's advance has left an open road into a lightly defended enemy city, I throw an armor corps and two wings of naval aviation (fighters and dive bombers) into a hasty attack. Other reinforcements pour down the road - I'm hoping to break his advanced force's supply line and force attrition.
The Battle of Kasar (his city) turns out to be an aviation fight.
By the rules of the game, his aviation can hang around to try to damage my ground forces, but acting alone they can't totally eliminate my ground forces - so I'll automatically take the city. Or they can retreat to safer pastures.
(I take the city. Red is cut off in Kasar, and most units in the city are forced to lose strength due to attrition.)
The Counterattack
Cities are the key to repairing current units and building new ones, so Red can't afford to let me keep Kasar. He counterattacks from both the north and the south. Also, hoping to get some relief, he opens up action on the other end of the front - attacking at Awjilah Pass.
The Second Battle for Kasar City once again finds my forces outnumbered, and the battered remnants retreat along the road (fortunately, still in our hands!). However, Blue has won a defensive victory at Awjilah Pass...
