The contoured hill pack

This set appears to be so new that they don't have the packaging ready for it yet - my review pack bore the picture of the old Basic Hill Set, with a label tacked on to correctly identify this as the Contoured Hill Set. The set comprises 12 pieces (1 large, 5 medium, and 6 small hills).

Contoured hills on my dining table

What's unique in this product line about this hill set is that the hills do not follow the "wedding cake" syndrome of flat-topped hills with uniform slopes, but instead give us hills of variable slope and complex crests. (The period in which you game, and the figure scale which you use, will determine which style of terrain best suits you.)

A close-up showing the contours

There is one interesting wrinkle due to the contoured design of these hills - the pieces do not easily stack. The hills lack flattened tops, which means that it is difficult to align two pieces together so that the top hill doesn't "rock around" on the hill beneath.
