Kallistra opens up a new range of ships with the introduction of the first three Organic Pirate ships. These are available either in the fleet pack (1 of each ship, at a discount price) or individually.
Just what is an organic pirate? Although the Organic Pirate ships are part of the Space Dreadnought 3000 product line, "organic pirates" as such have not yet been defined within that game universe. Therefore, we can only speculate that - based on these models - there are pirates who "grow" ships from living creatures, then somehow mate them to non-organic starship engines.
One nice feature about these ships is that by their nature, they can fit in with ships of any scale. (Space Dreadnought 3000 ships are 1/3000 scale, but these ships lack cockpits or weapon mounts which "give away" their size, so they can be any scale you say they are.) Therefore, these ships could as easily be used in a large-fleet game (such as Star Blazers!) or a starfighter game (they could easily be used as new Hatchling ships in Silent Death).
All of the ships come with a "flight stand" to support the models. A unique design consists of two parts: a shaft and a base. (The base comes in two sizes, with the largest size supporting the large pirate ship.) The shaft ends in a disk-and-knob arrangement designed to fit into the disk-and-recess on the bottom of these models, and the width of the disk means that the ships fit tightly and securely on the stands. These ships won't easily knock off their supports! The other end of the shaft fits into a hole in the base, which itself is hexagonal with a nameplate on one edge. Unfortunately, the base-to-shaft connection is very loose, and superglue may not be sufficient to hold the parts in place - consider using two-part epoxy or another strong bonding agent that has gap-filling qualities.
The ships in the Organic Pirate product line are:
