I've been slowly collecting and/or painting some opposing forces for Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000. I previously showed you the Chaos Space Marine Lord. Now, I've finished the first squad of plain old Chaos Space Marines.
You may recognize some "old time" models in this squad! I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this force, so I collected the models from the back of my closet, plus some bargain basement purchases on eBay.
Some of the models didn't look quite legal under the current rules, so I trimmed off some cables to make it clear the close-combat weapons weren't powered.
After assembling and cleaning up the models, I primed everything with Army Painter Color Primer Dragon Red. (I didn't even strip the paint off the models that were already painted.) I then gave them the usual red-ink wash and red highlights.
I should explain that this squad got its painting scheme from the Chaos Space Marine Lord I had previously acquired - so, red armor, blue detail color, gold trim. The painting was not difficult but it was tedious, so I took a few lengthy breaks from the painting process...
Several of the figures had scars from where something had once been glued to their gauntlets. I added plastic shields from my spares box.
This squad's emblem is taken from a marking on the Chaos Space Marine Lord, and I roughly drew this on the shoulder pads as if written by the Hand of Chaos.
I used grey talus to cover the bases, and painted the base sides to match the Chaos Space Marine Lord.
And here you can see the blue-clawed Chaos Space Marine Lord posing with members of the new squad.
