As I wrote elsewhere I ran 7 events for a total of 50 participants. When the players came to my table the troops were all set out on battle boards and the terrain was neatly laid out. As they arrived I bid them choose an army and sit down. 3 Crusader opposed by 2 Horse Archer, 1 Mamaluke and 1 Byzantine. Once all were assembled I would tell them that all they could be sure of now was that the troops in front of them were theirs. Next we launched into the min-campaign portion of the rules that determines who places the terrain. I introduced a new peice fondly called "make a hole". This terrain feature when placed created a 18" across circle where no terrain could be placed and moved any that was there. Great for the Crusaders. Next I had 2 of the 4 armies on each side draw cards to see which side there were on. Sometimes the Byzantines traitored over to the Crusaders other times it was the Mamalukes. In return a Crusader lord would switch sides. Great fun wathing a Crusader lord with 2 Horse Archer armies as allies. So the players didn't know who their allies would be until then. Broke up a lot of game club teams. Chris P. |
