Hello all,

I hope I find you all splendid in your Fantasy war gaming, I am Ady McWalter, in recent times I have done 'a bit of work' for Warlord Games in the form of the Albion Triumphant supplements for Black Powder. Now before you throw me off here back to my Napoleonicness I would like to introduce my take on Hail Caesar set in a fantasy environment. The rules and army lists can be found on my recently switched on blog.

So if you like Hail Caesar and Fantasy gaming then please take a look. I have had the kind permission of the gents at Warlord with this endeavour and have run the rules past Mr Priestly , and I am happy to say that he likes them

Please take a look and let me know what you think

That's brilliant, thank you. I've been looking to play war of the ring with HC and this saves me a lot of work. Bit cheeky, but are you gonna make a PDF of them?

elsyrsyn01 Jul 2015 11:39 a.m. PST

Thanks! I was wondering the same thing – a PDF would be much handier.

Oh man adymac you may have just made my day.

They look great. I'll definitely try them with Ogre Kingdoms and Dwarfs soon, well relatively soon.

The one thing I'd say might be done differently is the +1 to hit large monsters. This modifier has never made sense to me. A giant or dragon or something would have to be really enormous and pretty slow to be easier to hit than a body of troops.

For one thing a giant or dragon might be able to move out of the way of a mass of arrows shot at it in a way that troops would not.

For another thing a mass of 500 or 1000 men would just be a bigger target.

Thanks for taking the time out to reply gents :-)

Dear Pictures Studio
Re the +1 to hit monsters, it came out of play testing sessions, but that said I always take the approach that rules should flexible enough to allow players to amend them to their taste.
So I would say go ahead and try them without the + 1 and let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the comments

Hope you like them , let me know

Sapphon04 Jul 2015 2:14 p.m. PST

I am VERY excited about this. I look forward to the development into a full-fledged, printed book.

The same day I found this post, is literally the same day that I opened up my copy of WFB 3rd edition Armies, to begin developing my own Hail Caesar army lists.

So, again, I am very excited to see the lists that have already been developed on your blog!!

adymac265005 Jul 2015 3:47 a.m. PST

Thanks I hope you like them

MadDrMark05 Jul 2015 9:49 a.m. PST

Thank you for doing the work. A first glance has me very excited. I've waited a long time for fantasy mass combat rules that were more dynamic than HotT and less GW than Warhammer.

cheers let me know what you think

Because of magic, monsters, and flying units, there's a lot more to it than Hail Caesar. But I like the rules a lot. They feel more like mass combat than most other rules sets.

adymac265016 Jul 2015 12:36 p.m. PST

There is, it makes it a different game, and I am very glad you like it

thanks

Old post, I know. But I would be interested in this as well if Warlord put out an official book with a supporting miniatures line.
