Thanks so much for the kind comments gentlemen! To explain, the lines of circumvallation were built to besiege the Gauls within Alesia. The lines of contravallation were built to defend the besieging Romans against the Gallic relieving force. So on the small 6 x4 table we have the Gallic camp of the Alesia plateau, and the lines of circumvallation. The Roman team then stands between the 2 tables, and on the larger table stand within the lines of contravallation. The rest of the Gallic team then stood on the other side of that table to try to break through both walls to the besieged Vercengetorix! A tall order? We shall see! |
