I was looking at the army lists and in searching the rules, I haven't yet found it – are there list restrictions for allied divisions?

In other words, if I want an allied Goth division of four units, must it abide by the % restrictions of cavalry vs infantry?

Are there other restrictions on allies?

The Hail Caesar army list rules are not that detailed. Do what works best for the game you plan to play.

I would just pick what is appropriate from a historically valid allied list.

As Ran and James said. The published army lists are meant as suggestions, not sacred tablets written in stone. Especially if you are only fielding a single division of four units, go with what seems most historical to you.

OTOH, if you are fielding a larger, multi-division allied force and you do want to stick by the published army lists, then your allied force should follow the restrictions given for the Goths list in the second army list book.

I tend to like the old "25% allies" rule w GW's game, as a rule of thumb.

However, I think THE most important thing to remember is as stated by *Ran and *arsbelli:

Do what works best for the game you plan to play.

The published army lists are meant as suggestions, not sacred tablets written in stone.

As long as its a balanced, to fit the scenario and both players are happy with it. Your doing it right.
