The Southern Mississippi Armies of Conquest (SMAC) is eager to announce the 6th Annual "Average Joe" Field of Glory Tournament to be held on February 27, 2016, in Gautier, MS. This will be a 3 round, 1 list tournament played on a 4x6 table. Each round will be 3.5 hours with 3d6 minutes of random time.

1. Lists may not have more than 800 points.
2. V2 rule book and current BHGS rule interpretations will be used.
3. All judge's rulings are final.

Some nice ideas there, Berthier2. Be good to see if you find these work or not. Here in the UK, we tend to limit Superior or Elite units to 50% of mounted or foot battle BGs, but I still think it gives an unfair reflection to have that many "good" troops on the board. Armies of this period were broadly all made up of either Average or Poor troops, and I think that more tournaments should reflect this. Personally, I like having bigger cavalry units (6 instead of 4 bases) and infantry (8 instead of 6) where possible, but always have to downsize to get the BG – and autobreak – count up.

What do you do about artillery? For some time now it has been the norm in UK tournaments that you must have 6 bases of foot per heavy/medium gun (base, not unit). Recently, organisers have been requiring that such guns are either the first units deployed (historically much more realistic), or cannot be deployed so as to be able to fire into the flank zones (picking off 4-base cavalry).

This is the 6th year we have run the Average Joe. We have not had any issue with artillery and gave not found any need for special rules for them. This will be the first year of the Bill rule and we will see how it goes.
