Bear Yourselves Valiantly, the fourth set of rules in the Look, Sarge, No Charts family of rules is now available as a .pdf through Wargames Vault at: link

It is also still available in book form from On Military Matters at: link

BYV is a rules set for fighting tabletop miniatures battles in the ancient and mediaeval periods, with our without fantasy elements. BYV features dynamic mechanics that allow the players to firhgt the battle, not the rules. In these rules "realism" is gained through simple mechanics that stress the players' decision making. BYV provides period feel without pages of nerous charts or cumbersome rules… And best of all, there are no chart chards to detract from the fun, culutter the aesthetics of your table, or slow down the game. Whether you are new to the Look, Sarge, No Charts!(TM) rules system or a fan, whether you are an aficionado of the period or a newcomer, when you play BYV, you will be challenged and excited.

How's the basing for these rules when using 28mm GW fantasy figures? The cavalry need a 50mm (2 inch) depth…

surdu200514 Apr 2016 6:12 a.m. PST

Dave Gamer:

The rules specify a 3" frontage, but do not specify the depth. One of the guys in our club uses the rules with 28mm figures and mounts them to the depth necessary.

For that matter, if you have your figures mounted to a different width, I suppose the rules will work okay, but I haven't tried it.

Here's a look at a game being run using 25mm figures. They're mostly Ral Partha, not GW, but it gives you an idea:

As Buck said, the frontage just need to be 3", and the depth can be altered to fit.

OK – and about how many stands per player? Let's say I was going to play 1-on-1 game on a 6'x5' table and I wanted the game done in about 2 hours – how many units per side (or perhaps I should say "how many point"? Does it have a point system?

Not sure those gamers are all Ral Parthas…did you look at the bottom of their shoes?

Reviews or AARs anywhere? Tempted to buy it (as if I really need another rule set I will not have time to use) just because Buck wrote it.

Yes, there is a point system; and we recommend about 1000 point per player. This will get you about 12 to 18 stands of troops and associated HQ's. This will get you a game that is over in under 2 hours.

I was looking forward to this release but I will not pay that much for a PDF. Also for the record I really like Buck's rules.

I have a print copy. Worth every penny. We have been using them to stat up a bunch of armies…the ability to create any unit at all is one of the great things about these rules. Good luck Buck!!!

Thanks Buck!
