I was wondering if anyone out there has tried Simon MacDowall's rule set. I'm getting ready to rebase a ton of my 15mm late Romans and am thinking about trying out Comitatus. I know that the rules are on-line and that there is a discussion group for the rules set. I was wanting to hear from a wider audience. Anyway, what do you guys think about Comitatus? How compatiable is it with other rules sets (basing wise) and how many miniatures am I going to need? Thanks! |

I haven't really played Comitatus yet (just a test game), but it seems interesting. I'm not into Romans right now, having been bitten by the Chariot bug, but Comitatus did cause me to do some daydreaming. :-) The rules were designed for 6mm strips on 20mm square bases, which probably looks amazingly cool. But since I don't have any 6mm (yet! :-), I was thinking of using 25mm WAB figures directly. It seems that each unit has around 6-8 stands, each representing a maniple and deployed together in line. So for a full four legion army, I think you would need around 30-40 stands Since you're using 15mm, you might want to mount two on a 20mm square, so you can use two squares on a sabot and still play DBx. :-) /hdan |

Crud, I just realized that I was thinking about Legio, not Comitatus. Sorry! If only there were a way to delete these messages.... /hdan |

Here's the address for the discussion group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lateromanempire/ I also think it is an excellent set of rules. The latest edition is at the discussion group. I would also recommend http://tabletopgeneral.20m.com/newspage.html. Nicely done website in Great Britain that has alot of wargaming food for thought. Neil |
