I'm planning on picking up war and conquest to play some bigger battles in the dark ages. mainly because i have a growing dark age collection. but before I buy i want to see if i am coming close to needed amount of figures. i don't have any background in WAB. i know W&C is individually based, but how many actual models do I need per side? say for a medium sized game. any help please? -Stew |

Stew, May I first congratulate you on a great choice – WAC is awesome!!! If you have more 120 infantry and 20 cavalry then you are ready to make a start. By the way, you don't have to individually base your miniatures. Ensure you join the yahoo-group or scarab-forum, you will be able to post any question about army lists or any rule queries. Hope this helps? Raglan |

Agree with Raglan on both counts. My 2 cents on basing- a lot of my 28s are based 3 figures on a 60mm frontage, makes it easier to set up and rank, and with a few singles to make change, casualities can be taken off with no difficulty. Two 60mm bases = 6 figures which counts as a full rank in WAC. 60mm frontage also makes it easy to play DBA or FOG or Impetus or other unit-based games with the same figures. |

Assuming units are homogeneous, you base all but 1 stand as 3 per stand. The last stand should have a single figure and another with 2 figures. You can then make change, keeping that split stand available at all times. |

thanks for ther replies. I am doing the (typical) Anglo saxon vs the Danes / vikings. Since I will the first to pick up the rules I will need to supply both sides. I did check out the forum but only briefly, really to only check if there were dark age lists in the works or posted. They were all greek to me since I haven't got the main rules yet. i didn't know about the yahoo group so i'll join that in a bit. I'm a little short on figures, i only have about 90 infantry per side, almost an even split of mail wearing elites and normal warriors. I have no calvary. basing isn't an issue, all my figures are individually based and when i want/need elements i just use movement trays from warbases or something similiar. then figures can do double duty for other games. it works for me. i'll probably pick the rules up next month / pay check. then make a few lists to see what figures i need to stock up on. thanks for the help. -Stew |
