My club has been talking a bit about playing some Field of Glory: Renaissance. Several players have suitable armies that they used for Warhammer armies, that they are willing to use for a new system now that Warhammer is dead.

This gave me an opportunity to dig out the 28mm samurai that I collected many years ago, and I'm cleaning them up and giving them a new purpose. I'm starting with just repairing paint jobs and re-basing the old stuff, and later I'll see what units I need to beef up in size and if there is anything I lack completely.

So, a second life for my old Sekigahara Eastern army!

It's more fun than I thought to go back and recover a stalled project like this. Hopefully I'll hit 40 bases quite quickly, and I can even get some proper games in with them.

Maybe try Killer Katanas?

KK has been around since 1994 and is still being supported

Stecal: thanks!

Brian: I have Killer Katanas 2, and a few of the source books. I always recommend it to new samurai collectors no matter what system they choose, because the info in the books are really useful for anyone.

In this case I will start out with FoG:R since I have several clubmates who have european armies from the same period, and we are planning on a "Very Weird Italian Wars" campaign. Japanese invasions and Orc landsknechts is just the start of the weirdness.

However, I hope that I can organize some more historical games if I collect enough extra bases. It doesn't seem like we have anyone else who wants to collect samurai, so I'm pretty much looking at collecting both sides. I'll definitely take a second look at KK2 by then, and see how well we like it.

More units rebased, close to half a FoG:R army by now. Still missing the main thing: heavy samurai infantry and cavalry!

Yesterday when looking through various boxes, I found a bunch of Wargames Factory cavalry. I spruced them up a bit, and they were enough for five bases of cavalry. I can squeeze another base out of them, but I ran out of thick plasticard so the last two will have to wait.

I was not a huge fan of them back when I painted them, but as soon as I put a gloss coat of the black armour, they looked a lot better in person.

Very nice and a tough call on which of your methods looks "better".
Both styles look equally good, in my opinion.
