I've just posted a blog article about FOG AM and the Northern League (UK):

Recently I've been trying to see if there's any evidence in this year's data to support the view that there have been too many drawn games with FOG AM v2. I now have data from 4 of the 5 rounds to be held this year and was trying to see if there were any early indications of trends when I stumbled across an interesting preliminary correlation.

There's some numbers and a few pictures like this:

Looking at the data I am of the opinion that:

FOG AM in the Northern League has shrunk to a core group who are of similar ability and as a result are more likely to draw their games.

The full article is here.

FOGR seems to be much more popular, FOGAM2 has not really revived AM as AM1 did.

Too many hiccups on the launch of V2 since it was released as an electronic version and they didn't release printed version at the same time. It is dying here in the Gulf South IMO. We have seen tournaments go to 50 percent attendance of what they were 5 years ago. Not a dig, but an observation. I can't get enthusiasm up for the game. Folks are starting to go back to things like Warmaster.

Possible trends here include Impetus (very slight chance there) or very probably Hail Ceasar since Warmaster was well received years ago. My understanding is that HC doesn't require rebasing from DBX systems and isn't as scale specific as WM ended up being?

It's dead here in York too. The demise of DBM and the failure of FoG to become the dominant rule set (it bored people) means Ancient and Medieval gaming fragmented with each person having their favourite rules. As running a game where only you know the rules is a chore and quite hard to do in 4 hours or so including set up and put away, massed battles amongst Ancient and Medieval gamers are very rarely played now, we play Saga instead which everyone enjoys.

People used to groan about the dominance of WRG 6th and then DBM with it's "super skirmishers" (fixed in its last version) and call for more variety. Be careful what you wish for in wargaming, you might get it!

FWIW the drift from FoG-AM (which I do think has been happening) seems more to FoG-R, a few (back) to DBMM but mostly to Flames of War.

Although FoW has seemed an acquired taste for some WWII enthusiasts (not wanting to get into a ruck, here wink) a lot of ancients players took to it straight away.

Same time as an out-of-period option a lot of ancients players could 'get', the FoG spin doctors have been busy with first FoG-R then the Napoleonic thing.

Given that, I think FoG V2 needed to be a much more exciting package than it really was.

Me? I like choice anyway, and fragmented needn't be a bad thing. We play ancient and medieval period games frequently enough … the most recent being Neil Thomas, Armati and DBA. The NT and Armati being 'all hands'.

(and FoG Doubles at Derby in the aforementioned Northern League … one win, one draw Derby NDBML so no complaints)
