Great Hall Games in Austin, TX will be holding an "Edges of Empire" Tournament on site on July 12th and 13th. The theme of "Edges of Empire" is meant to represent armies in the period of 100 B.C. or before which did not depend on Pike formations or "legionaries". Thus the lists are not allowed to contain Pike or Heavy Foot Drilled Impact Foot Sword or Skilled Sword. For registration and more information, see: greathallgamers.org/forum/calendar/event-view.asp?eventid=306&year=2014&month=7 |

Interesting, so now armored spear will dominate? I like the concept but you are just trading one super troop for another in this case :-) Then there is the discussion of mounted troops :-) Not trying to be a jerk here but making a point. That barbarian foot army will still be trounced by Hoplites, maybe not as quickly though. Points systems do work. What people forget is that battles were almost never even. That barbarian horde outnumbering those legionaries certainly took it to Rome. The Gauls seemed to have done pretty well having sacked Rome. I think something else to try is giving disadvantaged armies more points. That Roman or Macedonian player will have fits facing twice as many units. Looking forward to seeing which armies dominate with the event. Not sure that I can make this one but will spread the word. I do have some Spartans that would love to be spruced up for this. Painting some additional units and making them Kyranian Greeks (sp?) would be very interesting too :-) Again, just yanking your chain a bit. Nice to see something different in a competition for a change :-) |
